About

Chamber Folk is the ambitious new EP from multi-instrumentalist and composer Owen Ralph. An innovative reinterpretation of traditional songs, utilising the combined forces of a chamber ensemble of woodwind and strings, complemented by electronic timbres and an intuition for creative harmony and driving rhythms, this is not your regular folk music debut.

Having been writing music obsessively since the age of eight and spending much of his teens playing in orchestras and rock bands, attending folk gigs and listening to electronic pop music, Owen has a broad palette of musical ideas and sounds to draw on in his own writing.

Chamber Folk then, is a combination of the sounds that come most naturally to him. Initially inspired by Dolly Collins' orchestration of Peter Bellamy's The Transports, the EP adds reminiscences of Bellowhead and Jim Moray as well as mainstream bands like Owl City and Athlete to create a work of music which is bold, inventive and dynamic.
